I worked with Neshama for 7 sessions, and my life will never be the same.  I came to Neshama hoping to find relief from the swirling tornado of thoughts around food and body that I was afflicted with on a moment by moment basis.  One minute I'd think, "Did I eat right yesterday?  What did I eat yesterday? Oh, that's right, I had two donuts.  I guess I'll eat my veggies today." Or, "Did I work out yesterday?  Oh, no, I was a lazy bum.  No wonder I'm getting fat."  Those thoughts would be immediately followed by, "Oh, my gosh, I'm so tired of worrying about this.  I'm just going to stop thinking about it.  And, done." Only it wasn't done, the cycle would pick up in the next moment, and I'd go through the whole thing all over again.  It was exhausting.

I didn't particularly come to Neshama to find a shift in my body. I really just wanted to once and for all put an end to the toxic cycle of destructive, annoying thoughts in my head. Neshama didn't give me the answers.  She didn't solve the problem for me.  What she did do was mirror my own thoughts.  She truly listened to what I said and helped me understand my thoughts.  She helped me sit with feelings and really feel them. She helped me navigate through the tornado to my own truth that I can hold tight to.  I'm not saying my work is done, but I have the tools now to continue the work on my own.  And Neshama will be there for me if I need a tune up session down the road.  Thanks Neshama!

My approach to food much of my life was not for enjoyment but out of necessity,  I can't ever remember eating for enjoyment. I ate fast so I could get my share before it was gone. I ate fast at work because we only had a half hour for lunch, I ate fast because it's all I ever have known.  It was at age 57 that I have learned to slow down and enjoy my meals, to enjoy the life giving substance that food is. When I began working with Neshama and trying to understand the psychology of my eating, I hated everything about food - and had for many years. I obsessed about food, making up rules about what I could or couldn’t eat, punishing myself with food, or withdrawing "reward food” if was “bad.” I agonized for hours over one cookie. I also never actually looked at or acknowledged the food I ate: I read my book instead or watched TV. No wonder I was so unhappy - and hungry all the time even though I eat mostly well.  But, from my first meeting with Neshama, so much of that changed. Through her I hear my desire to stop this cycle; I hear how much I yearn for the change; for pleasure. Neshama has also been instrumental in helping me form goals I feel represent me and are actually achievable.   Four months later, how I approach food, diet, eating, health and so many other parallel experiences in my life that have nothing to do with food has improved immeasurably - profoundly, really.
